DUNE Casa Harkonnen (DUNE House Harkonnen)

Illustrations for Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's. DUNE - House Harkonnen

This is the final illustration that the customer used for the bookcover. The other sketches were dropped in favour of this one because the sand worm was a much more known icon other than other concepts, like the House Harkonnen..

This is a skecth I specially like due to its simplicity. Arrakis as the center of the cover/universe with a spice cloud and some arab-like writting to make a reference to the Fremen. However, it not explained much about the House Harkonnen.

This skecth was intended to show either a spaceship or a fortress, with Arrakis with his moon on the cover's top.The model at the bottom is a close-up of the detailed spaceship model shown in the next sketch.

This skecth was a variation of the previous one, this time showing a spaceship orbiting Arrakis. The vessel model is modeled accurately and it is almost 2 Km long, containing over 2 million polygons.
This skecth uses a modified version of a Vladimir Harkonnen model made by my friend Malcolm Thain. As this 2nd prequel is titled "House Harkonnen" I wanted to do a sketch featuring Vlad Harkonnen.

This last sketch is a variation of the previous one featuring Vladimir Harkonnen, a spice vortex and the planet Arrakis.

The above sketch was a side design for a Harkonnen knife. The customer liked it and used it for the back cover of the book.
